“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” is a popular saying. But can’t value exist in its full worth without an external valuator? Most young women are often obsessed with concerns about their beauty. Businessmen have effectively collaborated with scientists to manufacture beauty diverse products, and even medical doctors have cashed in through cosmetic surgery. Facial beauty and physique have long become major issues for suitors. The concepts such as Beauty pageants lends credence to submissions that some people are more conclusively more beautiful than the others.
It is not difficult to locate men around who are also very keen about their looks. And many ladies have an eagle eye for men generally adjudged to be naturally handsome, while others posit that wealth brings out beauty in any individual. How true is this assertion?
Beyond popular issues of height, complexion, weight, etc, some singles are even very particular about the nose size of a would-be spouse, sometimes with sincere concern for their offspring who taking genes from both parents may eventually have an excessively large nose. This is just one in many aspects of the physiognomy, and today with the headway of eugenics many other ambitious trends are pursued.
A lady unimpressed by her facial morphology may choose to undergo cosmetic surgery, and with apparent obsessions to improve appearance, some choose to have silicone implants amongst several other reconstructive procedures .
Going by the Bible’s sequence of the creation of man, the real man is only housed in a body as it’s container for transaction with physical items in his environment. The individual’s identity is thus presented through his character. Thus character becomes true basis for evaluating a person’s worth. Perhaps, the reason for the bible verse “ for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart”. Even amongst men, often, beauty may get attention but personality gets the heart.
Philosophy reveals that thoughts lead to words, words to actions, and repeated actions become a habit that forms one’s character. So it all begins from our thoughts. Little wonder the scriptural quotation “ For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he”. Frequently our thoughts are generated from our biological senses, what we see, hear, read and can infer from these.
Eventually, every individual becomes responsible for what he gives thought to, that impinge on our character and determines our true worth in spite of our physical beauty.
Therefore, in choosing a spouse, one’s focus, I think, should be more on the content than container. Often times the container can be rebranded, reminiscent of – packaging addition – to the marketing mix. But first there must exist the right “product”, then price and others can follow in a chosen place. Or what is the value of fine icing on a bad cake?
When the choice of a marriage partner is entirely based on physical beauty, what happens when the once very beautiful lady is rescued alone from a fatal automobile accident, truly thankful to God for being the only survivor, but with large scares of fire burns, then the basis for the marriage becomes broken.
From a subjective analysis, I won’t say all women are beautiful, rather that, every woman can be beautiful. Particularly when inner beauty begins to impact externally. In which case, character traits, mannerisms and interests now determines one’s outlook, and give reason to the verse “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, [it was] very good”.
